Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Think of it like MPG for your car. A 14 SEER is standard, while a 20+ SEER system uses significantly less electrical load to extract the same amount of heat.

This is usually a volumetric airflow or sizing issue. Heat rises, and single-stage systems often satisfy the lower node thermostat before pushing enough CFM upstairs. A variable-speed system or a zoned damper array corrects this.
